Getting A Storage Shed

Storage can be a pretty important issue. Where do we put the things we need, but don’t need right away until we do need them? When you need more storage space you have several options: You can buy storage space, you can build storage space, or you can rent storage space.

Renting storage space

Renting storage space from self storage or public storage facilities is a notoriously bad idea when you have options. Renting public storage is a long term proposition. You pay someone else to keep your stuff for you. Self storage can turn into perpetual storage costs. There are better solutions.

Buying storage

If paying perpetual storage payments seems like a bad idea to you, there is a better way. You can buy your own storage building. For the cost of a year or two of storage rental fees, you can buy a building with about the same amount of space, and avoid the ongoing fees and inconvenience. I understand that most of us don’t have the cash on hand to just run out and buy a storage shed, but there are other ways. Utility buildings can be financed with home improvement loans, and most companies offer a rent to own program. Yes, I know that rent to own means paying rent, but the rent is relatively short term compared to paying public storage fees forever. The monthly cost is usually about the same but for a shorter time.

Building storage

It is also possible to build your own storage. If you have the skills, the tools, and a good set of plans, you can do this and save some money at the same time. There are also shed kits available. You will still have to pay for the material, so if cash on hand is the problem, you may want to consider another option.
